Movie review - "Una casa de locos" (Cédric de Kalpisch)

Una casa de locos (2002) és una pel·lícula còmica que mostra totes les diferents cultures que conviuen a Barcelona. Xavier is a student of economics from Paris that, albeit being the ripe age of 27, lives with his mother. In order to obtain a job in Paris, he agrees to spend time in Spain as part of an exchange program in order to learn Spanish. He leaves his beautiful girlfriend (yay, Audrey Tautou!) promising to remain faithful and heads to Barcelona. In the Barcelona airport, Xavier’s adventures begin. He befriends a French couple (a Dr. and his wife) that ends up giving him a temporary place to stay (and a little more), when his original housing plans fall through. This movie does a great job illustrating the melting pot that defines Barcelona. He soon interviews and finds an apartment full of international students: an Italian guy, an English girl, a boy from Denmark, a young girl from Belgium, a German and a spaniard from Tarragona. The movie follows the trials, tribulations, crazy, fun lifestyle of these young people as they complete their courses and find their life’s adventure. Eventually Xavier returns to Paris and starts his first day at his new job. Within minutes, he runs from the office screaming in search something different. His experiences in Barcelona have inspired him to become a writer to represent all his friends from the madhouse where he lived in Spain.
